Rafik Habib is a researcher and an intellectual specializing in the field of Islamic politics. He is a non Orthodox, Protestant Christian, usually referred to as a “Coptic intellectual.”
He has been supportive of Islamic politics and has a long-term relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Wasat Party. Habib was appointed the Vice President of the Justice and Freedom Party that was established by the Muslim Brotherhood. This generated high levels of criticisms by a number of Egyptian Christian personalities and groups.
